as far as that goes I'm no expert but I'm quite sure it was 87 when they added ABS.

I trully have no idea about the wheel spacers.

so only late offset wheels from 87+ will work?

also i wonder why they didn't put ABS in the 924S's if they were late offset 'n such. i would have thought they would have passed that along the way they did with the 88 engine etc. oh well

yes, only late offset wheels will fit... provided they're not too wide... I have 15x7 on mine right now, and it's tight... The reason they didn't put the ABS on the 924S is because the car was designed:
A) to be the "poor man's Porsche"... just look at the TV ads... "if you thought you couldn't afford a Porsche, think again." is the line from the commercial...
B) they used a smorgasborg of suspension parts... early offset A-arms, Early offset hubs/spindles, late offset wheels. did that so the wheels would fit under the non-flared body panels...

the 924S is truely an odd piece... they had 944 drive train and suspension from 2 different 944 generations, and some leftover 924 bodies... a light bulb went on, and the cars mated... resulting in the bastard child, the 924S...

Was it really just because they had some extra 924 bodies that did that?

also the wheels on my 924 are pretty skinny, are late offset wheels the normal width like the early 944's? here is a side by side view i took when i was switching around tires.

this is an early 944 tires on a 924:
