Default Aftermarket Temp Sender 84 944 na

I am considering updating the gauges on the center console, just for cosmetic reasons, updating oil, volt meters and also replacing the clock in the center with a temp gauge.

Question is, the sender in the block is a 120 degree C unit, the aftermarket one I have, the sender is 270C and about twice as long, the thread length is the same, it has a longer 'tailend', it threads in OK, about 3 turns, then meets resistance - is this sender too long and hitting something? or is there plenty of room to keep turning? or are the threads just that little bit different?

Default goof

It just dawned on me that the 120 degree and 270 degree senders do not denote the max temp range (270 your car may be on fire) but it is the angle of the gauge sweep (DOH!)

still dont know why the sender is longer? maybe have to email the manufacturer. These are what I am considering for the center console (oil press, water temp, volts):
