Default clutch removal

Hey guys.... my posting seemed to have vanished....

So when you remove the clutch housing you see the pressure plate and bolts that mount the ring gear onto the pressure plate. The ring gear must be removed to pull off the pressure plate and the clutch right?

When i called porsche parts the guy seemed pretty weird and said it doesn't seem like you need to remove it to remove the clutch... but those are the only bolts after removal of the clutch house that i see... also do i have to remove all of the darn exhaust mounts to get the torque tube far enough so i can take off the clutch housing? I have the housing hang there on the torque tube shaft ... i can't seem to get the torque tube far enough back to remove the clutch housing but i have enough room to work on the pressure plate and clutch.

Ring gear comes right with the flywheel not the pressure plate. You won't need to remove the ring gear unless you are swapping flywheels. On my car I had to rotate the TT housing at the rear about 90 deg. and found a spot where I could push it back another inch. Without that extra inch I couldn't get the bellhousing off

After you pull the trany and unbolt the torque tube you will be able to slide the torque tube back far enough to remove the clutch housing. you may have to turn the torque tube 180 degrees to get the ears to go past the torsion bar housing. then if you hold your tongue firmly in the top of your mouth and get your body in exactly the right contorded position the clutch housing will come out..... barely. It also helps to do this on a night where there is a full moon.

some tips that I've learned so far, and I'm only half way through....

Need to buy/borrow/steal 8mm tripple square bit socket (local hardware, auto parts and Sears stores don't carry them. Luckily I borrowed a set from a mechanic friend before I went and knocked on the local Snap-On guy's front door.) Also, 19mm box wrench and socket. Most wrench sets only seem to go up to 18mm, so I needed to run out and get a 19mm. (I think these were the transmission to bell houseing bolts. And lastly, 10mm 1/4 drive socket with wobble joint and long extension to remove the two bolts for the reference sensors (had to run out and buy these as well.)

Uh, no. The ring gear is attached to the pressure plate. Not the flywheel.

You're right. I guess that's what I get for laying on my back for 15 hours. Anyway he doesnt have to remove the starter ring to pull the pressure plate, that much I remember Just another senior moment.
