Default 928 engine in 944 chassis?

Has anyone considered a 928 engine swap into a 944? Is there enough room in the engine bay and are the motor mounts /mounting points compatible?

not enough room in stock engine bay.

it has been done with tube frame, i believe.

i think it's akin to stuffing ~2 944 engines in there.

in the words of dana carvey as GB #1, "Not gonna do it, not gonna do it"

^^ literaly the 2.5 liter 4 banger is half a 928 v8 and as it is its shoehorned into the engine bay as is the only way to get it in would be a tub chassis.

If it can be done with an LT1 I don't see why it couldn't be done with the 16v (2/cyl) 928 engine.

I've always wondered about this. . . The 928s have a LOT of extra room in front of the engine, so the long nose isn't all attributable to engine dimensions. Width-wise might be an issue - perhaps removing some of the inner fenderwells would be required. A 700RWHP 32V supercharged PORSCHE V8? NOW you're talkin'. . .

Geez, if I ever hit the lotto I'm gonna' be a busy guy. . .

i thought the issue with 928 motors was that they were too wide.

maybe taking out some of the fenderwells like jeff said might work.....but i doubt it.

i really dont know why you'd go with anywhere from like, 15-20 year old engines (928 engines), when you could easily go to LS1 and have idiotic power, and endless mod options.

My understanding is the 32v is too wide. As for why a 928 engine vs the LT1? How about keeping it in the family?

if sentiment is the purpose, then i can see using a 928 engine.

if the purpose is performance per dollar, there's nothing holding back a LS-series motor.

on topic- what about the 16V? are the dimensions that much different from the 32V? as far as width?

You cant fit a 928 engine at all without a tube frame up front.

However, if you really want a V8 from Porsche, you can adapt a Cayenne 4.5L V8 in there. Theres just no adapter yet. You wont be able to fit the turbo version though.

Porsches Indy V8

I don't know, really. All I can say about that is.....You can do anything IF........you have enough MONEY/TIME/PATIENCE...........or is it stupidiy? Different strokes, for different folks. Have fun, and good luck!
