Default 3rd plug for tranny fluid fill??

I have an s2 tranny (out of the car) that I need to fill with fluid. I really don't want to buy a $10 17mm allen socket. On the TOP of the tranny there is a black-capped hole - the air expansion hole I am told, but to the right of that is a 17mm bolt/plug that has a spring inside. Can the tranny be filled through this hole?

And also do you need to use a special fluid with an lsd? if so what kind?

If you are dead set against buying the $9 wrench, take a 17mm head bolt with a couple of nuts jammed on it. use a 17mm open end, problem solved the cheap way

Spend the $10, you'll use the wrench more than once.

Yup works well. I've done this a few times and the bolt head it's still in great shape (& so are the plugs). I use the hardened bolts/nuts. Also gives extra working room if you use a short enough bolt. All for under a sawbuck

My problem is not really buying the allen (I can spring $10) my question really is since I have the tranny out can this CONVIENT big bolt/hole on TOP of the tranny be used to fill it up?

How will you get the fill level right if you are filling into the top? Its really not good to overfill the transmissions.

If it's the bolt I'm thinking of do not remove it to use as a filler. It's a bolt that secures the 5th and reverse gear shift rod. If you back that bolt off too far you will hear the shift rod flip over and then you get to take the rear case apart to fix it beacuse it won't shift. Just buy a freakin allen wrench and quit looking for an easy solution. The best thing about draining the trans is you can see how much metal is on the drain plug magnet. It's really not that difficult. In the time it took to post this you could have driven to the hardware store and been back by now with the right tool.
