Default Testing the DME Temp Sensor

How do you test the DME Temp senor to see if it needs to be replaced?

You can check the resistance (around a few hundred Ohms), or the voltage drop when connected (under/around 1 Volt). Both should change smoothly when heated.
The engine will stall when the sensor gets disconnected.
What exactly are you after?

Please don't say you replaced the head gasket for nothing.

I tested mine with help from Clark's website. I removed it from the car and heated it in a pan of water. The resistance should be 3.3k ohms at 59F and 280-360 ohms at 176F.

http://www.clarks-garage.com/ Look under Sensors and guages in the Garage Shop Manual.

You might start with a quick resistance measurement right at the DME connector (pin numbers, anyone?).

Actually would be easier to do right now, as the intake is off the engine, and i have great access to the sensor.

It's cheap enough that I would replace it just as a matter of course. If you were having a problem with it running poorly. I think I paid about $30 for it. You can test it if you want.

Did you get it from the dealer or an online vendor?

Haven't got it yet. But I think I am going to replace it as a matter of course. THe one in there has been in for 7 years.

Anyone have the part number for the temp sensor? I ordered one through the dealer, but want to make sure they are getting the right part.

Try these Borg/Warner numbers WT5000 or WT3063. One of those will be for the gauge the other will be the DME temp sender.

I got a replacement at Advance Auto Parts of all places. 18.00 we'll see what happens after I get the car back together.
