Default $40 brake cooling ducts

Of course it actually cost me around $70, but that's because I'm retarded and first bought semi rigid ducting which was junk and bought an extra 2 feet of the flex yellow duct in the pictures. Anywho, I havn't taken it for a test drive yet, but the ducts, along with the new rotors and KFP pads should hold up quite well when I take the car to Lime Rock on the 22nd. Can't wait.

Are there screws holding the hose to the fog hole in that last pic? I cant tell. I would replace the zip ties with hose clamps, or metal zip ties. Nice color though!

I have both a zip tie and 1 screw holding each end of the duct to the collars. It seems solid for now, and has plenty of clearance from lock to lock of the wheel.

Have you tested how it works when you turn the wheel? It may kink if you turn sharply, or perhaps the tire would rub it. Just checking! Good work. (edit - you answered part of it before i could type)

Hey looks good. I was wondering if you had the incoming air directed towards the center of the rotor or just the inside rotor surface?

Just the inside rotor surface. I cut out a 3 inch hole in the dust shield and mounted a start collar in there. It would have to be a pretty elaborate setup to get air flow directly into the center of the rotor.

Clever approach. It looks like on the NA car you can run the ducts more inboard than on a turbo.

I built this brake cooling system for my 944 Turbo using the factory ducts and mounting points on the struts. On track days I zip-tie foam plugs into the stock ducts to force air through the hoses and into the vanes of the rotors. They also force some air around the hubs and through the center of the rotors to keep the wheel bearings cool. They work very well.

Where did you get the hose at? Any temp rating for it. I have some Thermoid SCEET silicone/fiberglass in 3" but it is too rigid and needed something more flexible.

I got it from a local place in Worcester MA called mechanic's bliss. I'm not aware of the temp rating of the hose but I'll be sure to report back next week after I've taken it out on a test drive and again in 2 weeks after I'm back from Lime Rock.

You can by the hose from OGRacing (www.ogracing.com) for $.25 / ft.

Where do you mount the duct on the passenger side of the car? The oil cooler is in the way....

I had to dimple the passenger side duct to clear the oil line. It still flows OK. I have these on another car now and they still work great. Still using the same old defroster duct hose too!
