Default Dieing Engine problem

For the yesterday when i was driving my 90' S2 i was in 4th gear going about 40 MPH and te whole engine completely turned off and i coasted to the nearest turn i could make. I stoped the car and it started right back up. it did this twice yesterday once it happened the 1st time i was heading home and it happened again. Today i figured y dont i see if it will happen again so i went to go and get donuts in it. as i was drving to te shop the car died again. i pulled over and started right back up. after i started it back up i drove downthe road and was sitting in line with my foot on the brake and holding the clutch in 1st waiting to go and it started idling really rough i look down at the gauges and noticed the tempuratur gage all the way to the top white line. so i pulled into a parking spot and turned it off. put the keys right back in and the temp gauge was back at the normal just a tad above the 1st white dash. does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

It could be a loose ground somewhere.

Does the engine die as if you were turning off the ignition, or does it sputter? If you give it gas, will it continue to run?

Check the speed/ ref sensors, see if the connectors have wiggled loose.

Replace the DME relay.

Do a search, this question has been answered many times before.
