Default 924 Turbo worth?

i'm looking at a 924 turbo. ~100k on the clock (or so the owner says, 5-digit odo....) runs really great, has most maintenance done, good upkeep. oringinal owner (!!!!)

1982, maraschino (or garnet) red. kind of maroonish, but darker than garnet. i'm looking at it, and frankly, the owner doesnt know how much it's worth, and i dont either. it's got the sewer-lid wheels, and the car is in really good condition exterior and interior.

original paint, original almost everything, etc, etc. not concours, but still pretty nice.

how much would this be worth?

Not much. I doubt it would ever bring more than 4Kish.

Juan, you know the drill. Get out the camera and give is some pictures!

I'd say $3500. I've seen one around me for $5/600 and it was shot...but it came with a new turbo. It turned over too...I think it was hit with a spray can too many times.

Happy Motoring Juan, keep us posted please!

now 2nd question. assuming it's in the 2k-3k range, maybe less, maybe more. is it worth it for me to buy it? possibly as a DD?

the 951 is getting too many miles, and my *** has become accustomed to riding in style.

Depends on your particular situation, but assuming you can just pick it up, I would say 2000-3000 depending on the finer details and receipts, etc.

I have been looking at their prices and they seem to hold steady at about 3k for a nice one in my area. I saw a concours-esque one go for $5500 with 20k miles a while ago. I have seen some in similar condition to the car I just bought from Rock for about $1500.

Do keep in mind parts prices. I am not sure if they would be cheaper since they are manufactured by Audi or if they are more expensive due to the relative rarity of the 931.

They are not nearly the reliable and common platform cars that the 924 and 944 are. The Turbo is a totally different engine, parts can be much harder to find.

The one I looked at had 67K miles on it and I'd believe that. Sad really, it just sat there for three years and then vanished.

Matt is right, not as reliable...this car got put out of it's misery on the first blown turbo...damn spray painted lightning bolts. Grr~

On the up side, you can get th uber-cool dogleg/"snail shell" gearbox. Turbos are fun, you know that!

Someone say FR Porsche?

The 931 used a VW engine, didn't it? VW parts are so ridiculously cheap and easy to find. For example, my bro got in a little crash, and ruined his fender, hood, and front bumper. He got a fender and hood for free, and a bumper for $35. He just bought a timing belt kit for like $40.

The 931 is the same as an early 944 on the inside, and it's missing the fender flares. Also, despite being turbocharged, it's still slower than an early NA. Why not just get an early NA for what seems to be the same price as this 931 would cost, and have some more power and wider fenders?

I know the 931 is appealing, with the nose vents and turbo scoop, and that skinny body has a certain charm. Just thought I'd present an alternative.

The 81-82's are more desireable, for sure; around 3k for a solid functional one, up to around 5-6k now for pretty ones. They're appreciating again, and can most certainly be quite reliable, once restored - mine's my daily driver. Even stock, they're fun, and since they don't even come with an IC, they're easy to get plenty more power out of with more boost, an IC, and premium (mind, they run fine stock on mid-grade).
