Thinking about it, that must have been the one I got. A 968 airbag version wihout the antenna. To convert to a non-airbag you just slice off the bottom rubber piece and your ready to go.

this is what I was thinking. the size of the glass is the same on the 'lates'...

what is different is a metal lip along the bottom of the windshield frame that is not present on the airbag compatible cars. so the NON-airbag w/s used a spacer/support around the sides and top only.

this 3 sided spacer came separately and may not have been required during replacement, thus the glass itself without the rubber spacer is one price...and adding the spacer could add $100 to that price

since the airbag cars had no metal cowl lip at the bottom of the windshield frame, it requires a spacer/support around all 4 sides.

AND I'm pretty sure the glass for airbag cars come with a complete spacer/seal already ATTACHED to the entire perimeter of the glass. that's prolly why there are more money

but I would think the glass for a late 944 with airbags AND antennae would be more expensive than a 968 w/s (obviously, with airbags no antennae - as that’s the only way they came here)

and the installer prolly removed the original 3 sided rubber support that presses onto the car's w/s metal frame

Sweet thanks for the photo Duck (you've got PM), just what I needed. And you say with that PPG windscreen there are no gaps on the sides?

The tech this morning did indeed say that FW 360 was the non antenna glass, and that's supposedly what he brought, but it had a huge gap. Safelite was the company, and PPG was the glass he had. He said the FW 505 was the antenna and supposedly bigger. I think I need to call back there and see what gives.

Very interesting, thanks again!

Hey Eric, i was going to edit that post earlier, but the forums went down before i could.

The windshield fits my '87 perfectly, no gaps on either side..no leaks..etc. It also has what i believe (im really not sure) the black rubber strip across the bottom for a airbag equipped car, though i have never seen a airbag windshield so i cant be certain. Just i know that black strip wasnt on my old original windshield.

PM returned also.

I would grab the numbers off of my glass but its in my 86 Turbo which resides at my house in Gainesville right now (300 miles north). I won't be up there again for another few weeks but I will take a shot of the numbers and revive the thread for future reference if anyone needs it later.

Here's the windshield I just got. I'm just not sure if its the elusive "airbag" windshield. I have an airbag car. It does say that its for the 87-91 944. Most of those cars had airbags, right? There's rubber all around the back of the windshield. No "extra" rubber though. Just want to know if I should exchange it.

Do yourself a favor, and don't use Safelite. I've had nothing but problems with them. You get what you pay for, don't let them train glass installers on your car.

yup, it's got that fat rubber spacer/seal around the entire perimeter and it came like that from the factory. also looks like it HAS the antenna.

where'd you get it & how much are they ?

with installation and without ?

can you get a price with no antenna…for the 968 ?

87+ cars all had airbags to the best of my knowledge, I have never seen one without.

I concur with Tom as well, that appears to have the antennae.

My little brother got it for me. He just started working for a windshield supplier. I got it for about $260-$270 or so. I havent paid for it yet. I dont know if that price is a deal or not, but Safelite quoted me $440+tax installed, so I have about $180 left to get it installed. I will ask how much of a favor this was, and if its possible to get others.

That is an excellent price for a antenna windshield, not to mention Sekurit is the OEM brand i am pretty sure.
