Default Dare I ask..... What tires?

I need tires and after searching here, I'm thinking Fuzion ZRi's. Is that the general consensus? This is a stock S2 street car with 16" D-90s . It might see some AX.

I had Yokohama AVS ES 100's on my last street car. They wore incredibly well, great in the wet, and are relatively cheap. I would definitely recommend taking a look at them.

I ran those (ES100) on my 83 autocross car and run those on my 88 Turbo S. Nice solid tires for a reasonable price.

They are not the stickiest track/autocross tire, but will stand up to the abuse. My father needs tires for his 91 928S4 and I recommended those to him.

I don't see how you can go wrong with either as the Yoko's and ZRi's are well regarded. I love the Fuzions on my street car but have not AutoX with them (Try contacting Jaak as I think he has). They have performed great in the dry and wet.

I've got a set of Potenza S-03s that were great in the wet and dry. They wear quicker than I'd like but that is to be expected for this level of performance.

I plan to replace them with the BFG g-Force Sport. I can get them really cheap and they should wear much slower than the Bridgestones. I don't autocross this car very much and it will only see occasional track time so the trade off between wear and grip is acceptable to me.

The Fuzion does seem to be a popular choice here. I'd suggest looking into the g-Force Sport as well.

Just installed 225/50/15 AVS ES 100's on my car yesterday... made a world of difference over the old bald crappers that came on the car.

Very grippy it seems... my first impression is:

I am on my second set (two cars) of Yoko AVS ES100s. I don't think you can beat them for the price. I have been thinking about Bridgestone Potenza SO3s next time, I hear they are better in the wet.

I've had Fuzions on my 17" Cup 1's since last summer, and put about 15k km on them (about 9300 miles). They've been fantastic. They are superb in the rain, too. I didn't get the Yoko's, though I was close, because of a shipping strike last year, they were backordered. The Fuzions were available and cheaper too

Maybe Matt H will chime in.

My buddy owns a goodyear and is suggesting i throw some falkens on. he can do all four complete for a bit under 400 staggered or 400 for all 225s.

Been running the Fuzions for about a year and a half now. When it's wet here is souther Fl. ya really need a good rain tire and I hav NO Complaints about the ZRI's. Have autocrossed them too and they were not too bad, I really dont have enough exprience to judge them on that yet. The one autocross I had a chance to run on R compound tires, it rained so no compairison yet. But I will say for an everyday tire the Fuzions tain't bad.

The S-03 is about so much better than the ES100 it is not even worth comparing (seriously, they dont bother with the comparison). The S-03 is now discontinued, replaced by the RE050A Pole Position. I was just doing some product testing and I have to say they are better than the S-03 was and on the wet course we were on they were superior to the Michelin PS2. The slip angle was better and the understeer was much less with 050APP.

If you arent looking to spend much money the Fuzion is a nice option and very close in nature to the ES100. Back to back I would say the Fuzion has better wet performance and better break-away characteristics while the ES100 might be a little more sticky in the dry and a little more quiet.

In the back to back tests that I've driven, any of the Bridgestone/Firestone tires had a higher breakaway and seemed to recover a little more quickly. I've put a number of sets of Fuzions on people's cars and I've had very good feedback. One set that I saw recently was worn completly bald after 30K. Granted, no track or autocross on those but for a 215/45/17 on a BMW I'd say not too bad. Particularly when you look at the cost of the Fuzion's. But then I'm a little biased.

How about the Falken Azenis 615's? They are similar to the Kumho MX (autocross oriented) and still fairly inexpensive at about $108 for 225/50/16's.

I have had ES100s for about 2yrs and 7-8k miles and I like them. They are a bit noisey but seem to grip pretty well. A friend of mine had them on his Z and I liked them. Well he recently put a set of BFG KDW 2s on his car and those things are awesome. I could not believe the difference over the ES on his car. I think that is what I will try next. Good luck the Yokos are a decent choice.
