Default my neighbor modded my bumper.. how to undo?

My neighbor backed into my car tonight, collapsing the front right bumper shock and creasing the license plate, but not anything else I can find. I have heard of some people on here pulling the shock back out, how do you go about it? I have yanked on the bumper as hard as I can, gently nudged a wall as suggestrf, neither have worked. I would prefer to just restore the shock if it can be done; rather than charge up parts on a guy decent enough to come ring my bell after misjudging the space.

Thankfully it is an NA (big bumpers) and the van was at stock ride height. I was envisioning a punched header panel like so many here have gotten. Nice bumpers these cars have.

Anything I should look for damage wise? All the panels are still lined up perfectly, to the millimeter. Headlights and hood operate as normal.

give it a little time, then yank, mine were compressed a long time ago and after a while they expanded again.

Get him to back into the otherside to even it out. Then pull off the bumper pads, little filler, some paint. Then you got yourself a nice clean bumper like Lead Foot's.

On a side note, looking up snub nose (conversion), or bumper pad delete, will get you a thread with info on how to remove the bumper. Though if its in too far, it may be difficult to get to the bolts that hold some of the parts.

You might want to try loosening the two bolts that hold the bumper to the bumper shocks, or just go ahead and pull off the bumper and pull on the shock directly. maybe twist it a little too.

My previous owners wife rear ended my car on teh way to deliver it to me.... (don't ask). Hooked a volvo up to the bumper and drove away slowly... popped right out and couldn't tell it ever happened.

Then I signed the money order and in effect, signed my life away. but that's another story.

So try just giving it a good pull. For me it didn't budge for a few seconds, tehn popped out all at once.

This has happened to me a few times, but it's always been my fault. I used my 300td to push my 944 bumper-to-bumper in order to move it in and out of the driveway (while I was still repairing it last year). The bumper would not budge, despite hard pulling and yanking. Then finally it just popped out on it's own a few hours later. It was pretty loud, and it looks just fine now.

Here's how I went about it, 12 hours after buying the car, and my neighbor did the same thing...
After refusing to admit that he was the culprit desipte the obvious paint trasfer on my car and matching measurements, I hired a forensics investigator who came out and did his thing.
I then presented this info to his insurance company, and they paid for it. Took my car to Queen City and they fixed it for $1200.
His insurance company then dropped him like a hot rock.

Call his insurance company. Teach him to be more careful.

But really, I would just take it off and get some used bumper shocks(x2) and be done.

Tried the hook a strap to a tree & pull routine, but no go.

I should know in the next few days if I'm moving to Columbus, so maybe I'll just stop by one day.
