Just some pictures of my fun of spring break. While everyone else was out in florida and cancun I spent mon-friday from about 2pm-11pm straight each day, in my shop tinkering with all kinds of things on teh porsche.
I haven't done any of this before... So i wasn't rushing, and i was taking my time trying not to do anything wrong and learn how everything works.
- briefly brought the engine outside and gunked teh whole thing.
-partial list of what I can remember doing.
-Both balance shaft seals (housing and rear seals included)
-removed all the belts, rollers, rear timing cover, waterpump, cam tower, etc...
-Assembled my painted cam tower with new seals
-Made a flywheel lock (took engine off the stand to remove flywheel and such)
-removed front crank seal
-stripped my driver door.. fashioned a way to attach the window rail that is on the latch side inside the door that was MISSING (thanks PO), which is welded in by factory, and put all teh pieces of teh door back together and adjusted correctly and put on the black door panel (changing from burandy to black interior!)
- completely disassembled and reassembled/repacked both rear halfshafts, and replaced 12point bolts with new allens.
- removed rear wheels calipers and rotors.. cleaned the rotors, adjusted parking brake so i actually have one for the first time since owning the car..
- oil cooler seals
- oil filler seals
- replaced alternator bracket with late style
- i'm sure theres more that I'm forgetting..
Needless to say, more COULD have been accomplished in this full week of work and maybe should have, but I ran into just about every problem I could, spanning from broken torque wrenches, to missing parts in my CV's, to having the early front crankshaft seal instead of teh late.
If it weren't for the front seal being the wrong one, i would have put everything back on and it would have been ready for motor mounts. Nextw eekend i get a chance it will be. Just ordered the motor mounts!
I didn't take that many pics, but heres what I have.

Those pictures of the exposed balance shafts are excellent....i already borrowed one to explain the rear cap over on clarks-garage
People can see what those seals look like, and how they can deteriorate and leak.

Nice! Saved all the pics, in case I ever have to R&R my balance shafts. Next time you get in that far, you should do the headgasket too.
