Hello from a NEWBIE
Hi all. Just wanted to introduce myself. I am Matt. I am New. HA.
We (my father and I) picked up a 944 towards the end of last summer and have been enjoying it ever since minus the snowy winter months. We found a 1983 944 For Sale on the side of the road and picked it up. The inspiration came behind our new found interest in HPDEs and my GTI's need to still be a daily driver to and from law school.
I will surface again with questions I don't find answers to in the search, as well as trying to make some contacts for track days in the Northeast. As well as in some for sale posts, as I have a compuslive car parts buying problem.
I have had some great expereinces with VW Forums, and anticipate the same here!

Wlecome to Rennlist! like Clint said, pics are always a help. you'll find many vendors and people here to help. With Rennlist and a wrench, anything is possible. remember that, and you'll go far. Glad to hear that you're into the HPDE's. we need more people to do that sorta thing.

Pics as requested...
These are taken from a NHIS HPDE last summer. Good times. It was it's first track day with its brand new Koni Yellows, Hawk HPS, new rotors, fuel pump, steering wheel and clutch. On my last session, I blew a coolant line shoting coolant all over the track and ending our fun for the day. Not to mention we were stuck in NH with NO TOW and 45 min to find a hose before everything closed for the day. Luckily, with the help of innocent bystanders, we made it ok. An entire set of new coolant hoses are to be ordered shortly...
ENJOY

Ditto, nice!
Looks like the PO put a turbo nose and rear valance?
Sideskirts look like the ones I see in the Performance Products catalog all the time - I didn't care for the ones in the catalog, but they look really good on your car - maybe it's the lighter color.

As far as the track is concerned, I'm convinced thats where this car belongs. It really is a whole new experience...(blew the doors off my A4 VR6)

Those wheels were standard on the 1983 944... they are early offset phone dials. you'll find them on 944's until 1987, then you'll still see phone dials, but not early offset..

As stated above- hide your wallet, and find your dad's!
Good to see another track junkie amongst the 944 ranks!
I take it you're into NASA's HPDE's. While they are a good club and, from what I've heard, they run organized events, you may want to join PCA and sign up for our DE programs. PCA DE's are a little cheaper, and offer about the same amount of track time as well as instruction for your money. The CVR (Conn. Valley Region) of PCA has a very active DE program - you won't be disappointed.
Good luck, and welcome!
