i got one quick question, my saratoga top is plexiglass, are they all plexiglass, or did they ever start using glass later on?

made both at the same time. i think the lexan was more money. i had lexan on my RX7s, and i think my buddys dad had glass on his 944 because he never took it off and took the car to car washes.

Are you thinking, "Who can build a plexiglass top, is it time for a group buy" like I am?

Plexiglass vs Lexan.
First -
Plexiglass is a trademark of Rohm&Haas (maybe someone bought them)
Lexan is a trademark of General Electric Co (GE Plastics).
Plexiglass: generic name is acrylic.
Pluses:
Inherent UV Resistant (sunlight)
Scuff resistant (steel wool test)
Clarity (>98% light transmission w/o tinting
Chemical resistant
Lexan: generic name is polycarbonate
Pluses:
Impact resistant (1/8" deflects a 22 short bullet)
UV resistant with internal stabilizers (better than acrylic)
Scuff resistance improved with proprietary coating (MarGuard)
Summary- polycarbonate (Lexan) is very tough (impact), but needs added technology for sunlight stability and scratch resistance. Acrylic - good sunlight resistance, much lower impact, OK scratch resistance (it is plastic!).
Bottom-line: Jet fighter canopy's use polycarbonate (yes, Lexan).
full disclosure - I work for General Electric. I was in GE Plastics for 17 years. I now work for their Financial Services division. Anyone want to lease an MRI or CT?
