Unhappy Transmission Troubles

I think I may have lost 1&2 Syncronizers in my 88 944S. I don't know whethter to try and fix it. (I am a veteran technician just not a porsche tech.) or to try and find a replacement. Anybody got one for sale? I know the S is an oddball but comparing transmissions I could put my final drive in a turbo model or even put in one out of an S2 although the 5th gear and the final drive is different its not by much.
Any suggestions. I have rebuilt both manual and automatic transmissions in a variety of cars.

How much are you asking? I can always swap the final drives. I am trying to weigh my options. I am not sure how much damage there is. Trying to get a feel for what is the most effective way to fix it.

I think the 924s and 944 8valve are different gear ratios.

Only the 5th gear... alot of the racers for 944spec put 924S transmissions in their cars... it's a good thing!

Let me clarify. The 944S (which I have) has the same gear ratios 1-5th as a turbo, different final drive. The 924s and 944 8 valve are different. The S2 has the same ratio on gears 1-4 with a higher numerical ratio in fifth. and a 3;875:1 final drive vs 3.889:1 ratio in the S. So my options are

Fix mine
Find a 944S trans
turbo trans and swap final drives (if this can be done)
S2 trans and live with a taller 5th. (Less power at speed beter gas mileage)

i have done many rebuilds. these are great gearboxes to pull apart. so long as you only replace the syncros you can just slap it back together. but if you replace bearings then you have to redo pretention and depth. we have all the special porsche tools to do it in house. thtts why it is so easy for us. if you are a technician then it should be no problem

Thanks,
I am a very capable tech just get a little apprehensive on something new.
Unless I find a disaster I will probably fix it. Its just time consuming when you do in your spare time.

indeed you are right it is time consuming. it comes down to two things. 1. how much is your time worth, 2. if you enjoy doing it.

if your time is worth more(you ern more money per hour than what it would cost to get fixed per hour) then you should get it fixed by someone else.

but if you enjoy pulling your car apart(and are capable of putting it back together) then it is worth doing it yourself.
