I tried home depot and osh for the vinyl paint, and I think the only carpet they have at home depot is the kind you buy for a bedroom. I need black vinyl paint or dye in spray cans, and beige/tan carpet for the trunk. Thanks!

try an auto upholstery shop. they may not stock what you need, but they can order you just about anything. you could even have them sew on a vinyl trim piece so it looks a bit more OE.

there are a few places to get dyes for vinyl and leather, I use either SEM or SurFlex...
both require appropriate prep and patience... here are a few pics of some of my custom work for customers
the blue is a 944 dash I'm doing now and the green is a 928 I did last summer (200 hrs of dye work)

That green looks professional (looks stock). It also looks butt ugly. The blue is wonderful - hopefully I can get the same results. I ordered 3 cans of SEM "landau black" vinyl paint from the cheapest supplier I could find on Froogle. It took nearly 2 weeks to arrive, but it only cost me like $27 shipped.

What kind of prep work is needed? I was thinking, removing as much as possible (painting the pieces off the car, with all the trim and platic bits removed), and precleaned with rubbing alcohol.

they sell stuff at walmart in teh isle with the high temp paint i think.

Works well.. but i haven't tested the sun yet on it.

WHY??? when I did hours of searching for carpets did I miss this place??? Good Grief. That looks VERY nice by the way. How hard is it to replace all the carpets in a 944?
I have a set on order from World Upholstery and they have a color (cream beige) that is the closest match to what I want. Unfortunatly is is almost $600.00 ACK ! ! !

Yes, these parts were once brown! If you don't believe me, look at the back.


This stuff works great, only gives minor fumes at first, and due to the textured nature of the early NA interior panels, the little bits of overspray here and there become invisible when dry. Whoopie!

Next I must paint the dash. I will be repairing all the cracks first with putty or bondo. I was going to paint it while in the car, covering everything with garbage bags.

Since I had to remove all the air vents to replace them with black ones, remove the glove box and lower passenger side kick panel to paint them, and I'll have to remove the steering wheel and gauges to paint the dash... why not remove the whole dash? Once all the stuff above is removed, what else is left? Is it hard from this point? Here's the current state:

What would be the best thing to use for filling dash cracks? I was thinking along the lines of wood filler...

One of the guys on the 928 board has had good success using fiberglass reinforced Bondo. I found it at the local Autozone for ~$15. The fiberglass gives it the flexibility you need on the dash. His process was basically to sand down the dash, cover the entire dash in the Bond filling in the cracks with it as well, sand down the Bondo until smooth, spray SEM texture paint on it to give it grain and then paint with SEM Landau Black.

Well I went to Kragen and bought bondo brand fiberglass and resin. Apparently this is not the right stuff, as the resin dried VERY quickly and became rock hard. I didn't even have time to place the fiberglass mesh on, so now I have a small patch of cured resin on my dash, but I think some sanding will get it off. Yuck. What exactly would I be looking for if I go to autozone or grand auto or something?

Hmmm, interesting. As I said, I haven't actually tried this, I was just going off of the 928 posts from Weissach and JArroyo. I'd suggest sending a PM to Jarroyo and/or Weissach and asking for their advise.
