Default 968 Rear Spoiler - How to detach?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to take off my rear spoiler. Is it just held on by 4 screws, or is there more to it than that? Two of my screws and washers have already fallen out so I'm looking to take the whole thing off, examine the type of screws/washers that's needed (possibly paint to match the body) and reinstall. Or, does somebody have some sort of Porsche diagram that I can look at? Thanks in advance.

Chris,

Those 4 screws just hold on the part of the spoiler...I've never had the hoop part off. I did jb weld some nuts and used different screws to hold the bottom portion on as mine had fallen out as well. Good luck with it,

There's not much that holds them on. I sealed the screws to keep moisture out. And I never close the deck lid by pushing on the (relatively) fragile spoiler.

Default Spoiler Removal

I have just removed 968 spoiler to send to paint to colormatch 951

Here is the deal - There are actually six bolts that hold the spoiler on the hatch. To access all of them the trim must be removed/taken loose. The rear trim (under spoiler) must be removed. Then the side trim must be removed or loosened to the point that you can CAREFULLY pull away from spoiler far enough to access the final bolts.

I like the thumbnail black and white background on the pic of my car. THANKS!

first remove rear trim with 3rd tail-light (4 screws).
Then you will be able to see 8mm nut attaching spoiler to each of side trim
(This is 2 of 6 bolts to spoiler)

The other four (two each side) go through the aluminum hatch frame. From underside of hatch they are phillips head countersunk screws.
Tricky part is these have a nut on backside and are covered by the side tirm(see pic)
I removed all the trim fasteners carefully with small pliers (they are a flat nut)
then you can easily see/access.

Possibly a more detailed write-up to come.

Body color paint for the spoiler was a factory option; it makes most cars look better, and prevents water spots-the flat plastic wing always pooled up on my old coupe-I was going to have it painted but then I sold it.
