Default Blaupunkts do NOT fit with power windows

Enough said, Crutchfield said they would fit, but the rear of the speaker hits the window rail before I can even touch the bracket to the door to screw it down. Looks like the 1 7/8 depth is too much. I bought these only after seeing how some people on the forum had success, but they must have all used some kind of spacer.

I had some of those someone gave me. I tried to mount them in my doors, I don't remember how.... I think they came with a spacer. When I got the grill on and closed the door, the grill would touch the side of the dash and leave an imprint of grill marks. Sorry I'm so vague its been a while. The long and short of it is, I didn't use them.

The speakers should come with a spacer bracket that the speaker goes over--black, with multi holes around the edges? Mine fit fine with the included spacers. They WONT fit if you just mount the raw speaker to the door.

Andy: Don't they stick out too far that way? I positioned it up to see how it would look and the speakers jutted out from the door too much.

Did you have the 'bags' around the back of your speakers as well? or no vapor barrier.

This was the problem I had. They would work, but I didn't want the speaker grill pushed into my dash 24 hours a day.

yeah i installed blaupunkts, and they definitly do not fit. there was just another forum on here sudgesting speakers that would fit perfectly. https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-944-951-968-forum/257988-put-4-speakers-in-the-944-today.html i tried both setups with the speaker grill they gave me, vs the orginal ones. i used the spacer for the originals and it looked lame...then i took out the spacer and tried just bending the original speaker grill a little bit, looks a little bit better, but still lame. i can post pictures if you want.

Mine didn't hit the dash. And, the Audiobahn 4x6's I bought also don't hit the dash, and look very stock. Sure, they wont be the original flat crappy speakers, but they do fit. And, I do have the vapor barrier in my doors.

Do you have an early car, or a late car? Maybe that has something to do with the clearance?

I've got your 89 S2, same style.

mav: If you're got pictures, put them up. I'd be interested in seeing whether yours looked as ugly as mine. I removed mine since they looked so bad, almost like a box protruding out of the door.

Same here, using the provided spacers.

Kinda on topic...I was going to go with a set of Nakamichi 5.25 in the doors but the surgery would have been too much. So, I picked up a set of Infinity Kappa 4 x 6 which fit in fairly well. With a little tweaking they would almost appear factory.

Then I listened to both speakers. The difference between the Naks and the Kappas are night and day....not because of the manufactuer but because of the size. Now I have to fab some sort of pod or ...

alright i'll go out after dinner and take some pictures, and ya i definitly have the box thing goin on!

andy k, my 944 is the late version, and the speakers are squished, altho they dont leave marks in the dash.

mike b, i'm guessing it were the infinity's that were so much better? are those the ones with the plate and 3" speaker? has anybody heard how the momo's sound? cost a lot...

Nope...the 5.25 Nakamichi speakers were the better, richer sounding of the two. I'm sure most of that is 'cause of the size. The Kappas are the ones with what look to be a 3" speaker and a tweeter attached to the plate. A quality product for sure.

Between the Alpines and Blau's, I bought the Blaus because of price and keeping with the Blaupunkt system in my car, might have been a bad move afterall. The contrasting Alpines were a shallower depth and supposedly a better sound.
