Post Selling an S2

This is a question about value. I haven't decided to sell quite yet.

What do you think?

Black -91 S2 in overall fine shape, mechanically sound, thorough documentation available...BUT head gasket and front seal job needs to be done now!

If I sell it, it is going to be honest. The next guy or gal is not going to have to be negatively surprised or anything so withholding info is out of the question.

Should I pump in the money to repair it ($~3500) or sell it 'as is'. Do you think I could get $6K for 'as is' or is that a dream...

I could probably get near $8K for it with a newly sealed up engine, which by the way is in good condition (!) despite 185K miles.

Share your feeling for value with me (or make a bid)!

Mike

A friend of mine just picked up a very nice S2 with beautiful paint and almost perfect interior for $6k. And Nick can't seem to give his away. Good luck selling it for what you're asking.

Hmmm... darn it!!

It probably be worth next to nothing with these big jobs pending.

What a trap; it seems like the only reasonable solution to pump in more $$ and stay the owner...or take a serious beating and loose it for nothing.

Isn't there any rightousness in the world, only economic reality

Cars like these should be treated with the same dignity as old people.

you dont know the half of it. i bought my 85.5 944 for 2,500 and was just going to freshen it up and flip it...i've already invested 6k into it, because since it had 114k, all of a sudden everything had to be replaced just to get it registered! haha and i'm still putting money into it! gotta love 'em!

FWIW, I picked up a 165k miles 1990 S2 in Washington this summer for only $4.5k. The vehicle needed some interior parts replaced, but the motor was running strong.

i was gonna get that car...it is white correct? the one i got is actually much nicer...i paid more though. then did a radiater, belt retension, will be fixing abs and a few mior paint issues. the real thing is it is a bad time to sell a porsche now, i will get what i want in a month or so when the weather breaks here. only reason i am selling mine is I have 2 cabs now

I used to own the white 944S2 Joseph bought. In fact, I drove it to Takima, Washington from L. A. in that car. Its funny how it ended up back in California. It ran well and I remembered everything worked including the air conditioning. The previous owner owns a helicopter company and used that car as a daily driver. A neighbor backed into the driver door while I was standing right next to the car (there was a thread on that incident). The reason why I didn't keep it was because I had absolutely no spare parts for the S2 drivetrain.

Oh as to your question, I believe 6k is high when the car has head gasket problems. With the amount of work and in S. Ca., you are probably looking at around 3.5k as is. It took Jason a little while (which is surprising to me) to get the 4.5k he was asking for his car that Joseph bought.
