Default Clutch Pedal Sticking at Top

I have been having a problem with my clutch pedal sticking at the top of release point and then if I tap it with my foot it will release all the way it will stop right at the point where there is that gap between where the clutch engages and releases all the way out very irritating as it does not do it all the time. Is this a clutch issue or is it just something sticking inside the car. I went through the records on the car and the last clutch was at about 105,000 and there is now 208,000 but the clutch seems to work fine tight and no slippage or grinding. Anybody have this problem and if so what is the cure?

Most likely, it is the first sign of hydraulic failure (alghough not for sure). Check the driver carpet to see if it is wet with fluid behind the pedals. Top off the fluid and see if it starts to go down over time.

Toms probably right about the master or slave going bad. You might want to also check the bushings at the pedal pivot. At 208K they can get pretty worn and bind up. Usually when the hydraulics are going they don't recover like that and continue working. There is also a return spring at the top of the pedal that helps the pedal return all the way back. It's not the heavy spring that has the rod in it, it's higher up with hooks on the ends. You should also check the pedal freeplay; it shouldn't be anymore than about an 1/8" from up to first tension. Has the trans been shifting harder lately when you notice this?

If the master/slave cyl isn't going bad, it could be the spring that keeps the clutch pedal in place. If that spring was installed backwards, you have have this 'sticking' happen. (Happened to me.)

Master cylinder is shot. Be sure to replace the slave as well, or it will fail 30 days out, guaranteed.

My clutch pedal does the same thing when it's cold. I suspect the master clutch cylinder because it is leaking slightly (I already rebuilt the slave cylinder). Got a new MC coming in today. I'll let you know if that fixes it next week.
