Default Cam will not turn **FIXED**

Hey everyone!
I'm trying to turn the cam sprocket a tad to get everything lined up for the timing belt but it won't move!

Any ideas?

Are you trying to turn the cam by hand? You need to use a socket and wrench to turn it.

OK, I got it into alignment by turning the flywheel a little, putting the belt on and then turning it back to TDC.

Next question....Now that the cam and crank is in alignment, when I release the spring tensioner the crank turns just enough to go out of alignment. Is this normal?

Ummm...

If the belt is on right, the slight movement means nothing. Lined up is lined up. Put it back to the proper spot for adjustment (1.5 teeth anticlockwise), loosen and retighten the tensioner again just to make sure you got an accurate setting. I can't remember having the crank move around to be honest with you.

yeah get it all lined up, drop the belt on tension everything then roll the engine around 360 once and line it back up. THat will tell you if your still good after the slack in the belt is taken up. Make sure you rotate it the way the engine turns or you will be innaccurate.

xsboost, NO NO NO....... you need to rotate the engine around twice (720 degree) not once (360 degree) to get the cam to align again!!!

Just crank it until it lines up. If the the crank is at TDC and timing mark at the cam is on, you are ok.

OK, belts are good...

***New problem**** The hall sensor harness literally crumpled in my hand. It still plugged up but there isn't much left so I wrapped it with some electrical tape as a temporary measure. I hope it still starts tomorrow! Is a hall sensor something I can get used or is new the way to go? Does it "wear"?

It's official, I have emptied the Porsche Savings account for the first time...$200 a month/ $2k total went fast on this car in a little over 7 months! Hopefully after this latest mishap, I can start concentrating on the interior again.... I want a new dash and carpet!

Help!!

I finished getting the belts on and tensioned. I went out to today to turn the motor and it moves a little but then it wants to stop. I tried turning it a little more and I heard a low thump/pop from the head.
All of the timing marks line up. The cam gear only goes on one way so that can be off. What is wrong now?
Where do I look from here?

Have you tried turning the engine over by hand before the timing belt cover went back on? If yes, did your make at least 2 revolutions by hand? Is the battery fully charged?

Yeah, that's the point in where I am at, turning it by hand. I figured out the pop noise, the cam gear is turning on itself, not moving the cams. I am taking it back off right now. What could prevent my cams from turning?

Do you have the spark plugs out? If they are out, there is no reason why there is any resistance other than if you left the car in gear.

Spark plugs are out..car out of gear.. The crank turns fine..the cams won't turn.

I pulled the cam gear off, it looks fine. The exhaust cam will wiggle pretty freely, but the intake cam will not budge at all. I peeked down into the intake ports and the valves look to be in the correct spot and don't look bent.

I double checked the bridges and they are in the correct order....

OK, I loosened up the bridges on the intake cam and it started turning freely. When I tightened it back down...no turning.

So, cam is bent?
