Help! Will spare decklid fit inside my car?
I’m looking at buying a used 944 decklid with glass…4 hr. drive each way to pick it up. Does anyone know if the spare decklid will fit into the back of my 968? The decklid of the 968 should be the same size as the 944 and my tape measurements seem to indicate that it can be done if I angle the 944 deck lid while sliding it in sideways. Has anyone ever done this? The difference will be about $85 in gas if I take my gas hawg truck…plus missing the fun of driving the 968.
If you’ve ever tried fitting one in before, I’d sure like to know. Thanks!

They are the same with the exception of the brake light and the pins. The 944 has the seals built into the pins and I believe the 968 seals are on the body. The brake light needs no explanation.
Also, your 968 spoiler will not fit the 944 glass, unless it is a 91 s2 hatch.

Anyone with a parts car and an extra hatch lying around car to try this for Harvey?
He is going to drive all the way to my place to pick the one I have leftover from parting and I'd like to check out his 968.

Please note....I bought the decklid and frame from Jason and it EASILY FIT INTO THE LUGGAGE AREA OF MY 968 w/some room to spare. Thanks, Jason. Great guy to deal with and obviously knows a lot about 944s/951s. Just turn the lid sideways cant slightly and slide it in...like a couple of you said.
227 miles one way to pick it up. 30mpg on the way over and 27.5mpg on the way home. Go figure. I know the trip over was slightly downhill but not much...and the decklid wasn't THAT heavy. Cheapest gas used both directions. Hmm?
Thanks,
Harvey

Good to know!
I've bought stuff from Jason before - a whole car actually. Great guy to deal with -- I hope he gets back into a 944 in the future....

It was nice meeting you today Harvey, it too bad I still didn't have my old 951, you would have loved to take it for a spin. Waterguy on this forum bought it, I'm sure there are some photos hiding around here somewhere.
I got the feeling today that we might have met before. Did you bring your 928 down to Yakima 4 or 5 years ago to one of the local show and shines? I remember talking to one of the Pac Nw guys, and he either looked allot like you or my memory is failing me badly.
Joe,
How's that S2 treating you?

The S2 is going great -- working on fixing some minor things tonight, actually. Earlier, I got her lots of new interior parts, new seats, new windshield, new door handles, and so forth. It's being used as a loaner car to a visiting friend for awhile -- she's loving the car as well!
I hope you're having a good time being a dad!

Jason, Nope I had never been to Yakima before. But I'm thinking your 944 doors might even fit in the trunk too. Would have to measure...but i don't have a need right now...not even sure they'd fit a 968.
A guy on the Pelican list serv says he once hauled a complete 911 engine in the back of a 924!
Thanks, again.
