I installed a basslink 200watt, and everytime I leave it on with the engine not running it dies with 3 minutes.....do I need a new Battery? or Capacitor?

Yep it would be battery. All a capacitor would do is take the strain off the battery so it doesnt end up as the one you have now is. and at 200W any 12 V car battery can handle that power. Is anything else drawing a charge when the battery is off (above normal)? I am amazed the car will start up later since it takes much more power for the car to turn over than to run a 200W system.

You should get at least an hour of play time with that setup. Either you have a big electrical draw coupled with a marginal alternator, or else you need a new battery.

I would hit the zone or PEP boys depending on where you are and have the battery tested. If you want to look for a short, turn the car off, pull the positive lead from the battery. Then put a light between the positive lead of the battery and the positive battery cable. If it lights up, something is drawing power (either something is on or you have a short). You can figure out a short by pulling fuses one at a time while checking to see if the light goes off.

More than likely you just have a battery issue.

The only thing I have is that 200watt basslink door/side speakers and deck, nothing else. also before I installed the basslink when I would not drive the car for a month or so the battery would die...
