I've never used synthetic before. I like Mobil 5000, it's actually the cheapest of the known brands of oil at my local kragen... If I don't use Mobil it's gotta be Valvoline, but again, only fully dino oil. What's the advantage of using sythetic anyway?
Try using a synthetic blend to see if your valves shut up.

Never had a lifter click unless the 20 50 was in there with cold temps +20F or so and the car sat for several days, always outside.
Last week I changed to Mobil 1 15W 50 full syn., now if the car sits overnight, this am was 28' when I started it and the lifters clicked 'til they pumped up. When I started it Friday, the car had sat for 6 days and clicked when stared, I was surprised at that, but thought..well it has been 6 days and it was cold.
But I really can't accept the lifters draining overnight. Any ideas as to why the Mobil would do that?
218,000 miles...not stellar, but decent oil psi.

All 944 motors click when they sit around for a while. The owners manual acknowledges this.
Synthetic will flow lots better than dino, and it will also drain down faster too, and it will "leak" faster too if you have a mechanical problem with your car such as a worn seal or bad gasket, because it will flow out faster than dino.
It's a better oil, flow is what you want. However, in the instance of a worn engine, perhaps a thicker gummy oil type is of some value, if it won't drain down as fast? Since synth is known for better film strength, better heat resistance, better everything actually, I use it in my three porsche wasserpumpers. I use Mobil-1 15W50 in the 944s and AMSOIL 20W50 in the 928, with very good results.
