Default excessive fuel consumption ?

I think "16" is really burning petrol.

she runs ok, seems to be mainly when I stop and start engine.

Need to do some more tests but I think she really is sucking juice (even with me driving carefuilly and motorway)

ideas,

she is due for a service, but couple of months back I did an oil change and checked and gapped the spark plugs, sure last year the filter was changed and was ok anyway

thankxs

Ade

Check your air flow meter adjustment as your car may be running too rich.

Use a smog machine or if you are an expert, you can adjust by ear.

The air bypass only affects the idle CO. You have to take the cover off and play with the spring tension on the flap for midrange adjustment. IF the AFS has never been opened then there is no reason to remove the cover and play with the spring. However you can relocate the wiper contacts to fresh carbon resistor material. www.frwilk.com

My car is also running extremely rich. The first thing I am going to test is the fuel pressure regulator.

I would have tested the pressure in the rail today, but someone broke the rail retaining bolt closest to the distributor off. So I can’t put any torque on the cap at the end without twisting the whole rail. I’ll have take out the broken bolt and install a new one before going any further.

The spring in the AFM do wear out over time and sometimes will need to be adjusted.
