Default Lighted 12v line?

Im hooking up my guages tommarow in my car, and I would like to hook up the lights in them. I only want them to be lighted when the other insturment lights are on. Wheres the easiest place to tap into a wire to hook the lights up? The guages are being mounted on the A-Pillar.

Jeff
TIA

I tapped into the wires that feed the light for the center vent.

I used the wires that go to the ashtray light. Not entirely sure why they thought I needed to be able to see ashes in the dark but I'm glad the wiring was there! I just disconnected the wires from the bulb, pulled them back through the center console to the area behind the cubby and then connected the gauges to them.

IIRC, there are two grey wires and one black (I think). You have to use both grey wires to get the lights to dim with the other instrument lights.

The ashtray works. I used the lines from the dimmer switch so they dim with the interior lights.

For the record, the ashtray lights are on the dimmer circuit as well, as long as you hook up both grey wires to the positive side.

Those crazy Germans think of everything, we wouldn't want Herr Bergermeister-Meisterberger distracted at 250 km/h on das Autobahn at an inopportune moment by an ashtray light that is entirely too bright compared to the dash lights whilst looking down to stub out his Cohiba...
