Tom,

You are right. I am buying my sisters' wrecked 98 Disco as a buy-back from the insurance company for 1,000.00--needs a hood, bumper, grille--a good deal, but I don't really need it seeing as I have a 79 Jeep Wag, 86 951, 99 F250, and the Moto Morini(which was also an impulse buy).
I live alone and will have 5 vehicles????

I just can't pass up an automotive-related deal.

I too have been hit with the bug.......... This year alone I bought my '05 Explorer Sport Trac, '88 944S, '86 951, to add to my '01 Mustang GT conv. I am trying to sell the 944S but 2 weeks ago I saw an awesome 951 and thought. well, I can't wait until I sell the 944S, someone else might get it. If it wasn't in Cali, I would probably have it. Is their a clinic I can check into?

Need a reco on a clinic too. But in the meantime, I really need to fix the power steering pump on porsche #1 and get porsche #2 ready for the track, and by the way, new suspension parts (read upgrade) and a supercharger for the 328i so I can kick some M3 butt. I really don't have time to go to a clinic so, cancel the request for the reco. I really love yellow 944s, does anybody have a yellow 944 fixer-upper?

you havent lived till you've spend 2500 dollars on a mitsu eclipse GSX that's supposed to run 12's, then dies on the way home, you find an oil leak, fix it, and have the car promtly overheat and explode the next day.

or you have a friend who buys a 400hp 1st generation RX7, only to have it blow a hole in the rear iron 2 days after he bought it.

or have the same friend go all the way from sacramento to arizona, to pick up a 2nd gen RX7 that doesnt start under it's own power, drive it back to sacramento, race it for a few days, and then find out it has a bad turbo.

or buy a 1983 supra with plans for a turbo conversion and upwards of 350 rwhp. only to have it throw a rod on the freeway going 70 mph with the stock ~90 rwhp.

or buy a 1984 944, with no passenger mirror, massive leaks, rusty exhaust, etc etc, and a body panel that didnt match. only to find out that it would be the most satisfying experience of your life to fix it,, make it work and finally have it all taken away from you by a drunken idiot who didnt notice that he just ran over a porsche with his bronco.

then wait a year.

then you buy a 951........

I finally broke the addiction - but it took me almost 30 years to do so. Way back when I used to get paid once a week (ya'll remember that don't ya). Anyway - I based my expenses on 4 weeks of pay per month. Of course every 3rd month had an extra payday, so I'd save that and combine it with the next 5 week month. That gave me two extra paychecks every 6 months - which by coincidence was just about the amount needed for a down payment on the next car. When I finally quit the sillyness I had wasted a vast amount of money and STILL had car payments. I doubt most of the cars I bought back then had more than 6k on them when I traded.

But, as I said, that was then and this is now. The Isuzu Rodeo I bought new in 2001 will be paid off in May of this year. It has 106,000 miles on it right now and it's in near perfect condition. I fully expect to drive it another two years. The 951 in the garage has been mine since 1997 - that's 9 years folks. The 1996 Mustang I bought new has been handed down to my oldest daughter - so even it's still in the family. The "other" car was a 2000 Isuzu Tropper which my youngest daughter now calls her own. We've had it for 4 years now. It's the baby of the bunch.

Took all the money I saved NOT buing cars and bought land in Yoakum (18+ acres) and had a new house built here in Katy. I really don't even read car magazines anymore. Know something, I don't miss it at all.

THAT is great! I laughed and laughed!

At the end of the day, there are a lot worse things we could be up to.
