Question Emergency snow tire question

I currently have Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Assymmetrical all-season tires on my 951. They are pretty good in the snow. I actually made it down my unplowed street with 10 inches in the road, but it was light and fluffy.

Tonight, we have a snowstorm starting which will of course start with snow and ICE. The problem is that I have to be at the airport at 5:30 AM tomorrow and my girlfriend, who is already pissed at me for Christmas will be REALLY pissed at me if she misses her plane.

The question is this. I have TWO Blizzak WS-50s that I can swap on to the rears, but I was too lazy (stupid) to get the other two, so now, should I run mismatched tires? The extra traction will probably be helpful in the ice...

If you decide to use them use them on the rear, while not conventional it does work.

It wont be optimal but it will be better then just the all seasons alone, put them on the rear

Thanks guys. I just checked some tire rack reviews and they weren't exactly complimentary of these tires in the ice, so I'm going to swap some tires. I'm glad I waited until dark.

The funny thing is that I thought the tires weren't that bad in the snow, but I was comparing them to performance tires where a .005% grade would be enough to get stuck. The Dunlops got me through a Colorado snowstorm with 8" on the ground. It will be a interesting trip tomorrow.

Thanks.

Just remember that if you swap out different tires on the rear (ones with more traction) you not have the same (good) traction up front. If you ask me, I would like equal traction overall, not extra in the rear and not as much up front. That wouldn't be very fun entering a turn thinking you have more traction then you really do...

Be careful stopping, that is the real problem with not having them on the front as well.

Call the Limo company. No tire changing, she rides in luxury, and no risk to the car... That's my vote.

Oh, and you get to sleep in!

As a side note (somewhat OT), but I drove my car about 1 mile the other week in about 2" of snow in some Yoko ES100's (summer-only tire) to move it from one house to the other.

Got stuck in my driveway (~2" of wet snow, level ground).
