safe to start engine ??

Default safe to start engine ??

I have removed the auto transmission box from my early 944,
Is it OK to start and run the engine.

Yes, I take it you have the torque convertor removed as well. The trans oil pump is in the trans casing (internal) so all you will be doing is spinning the torque tube.
