Question Hatch Key doesn't unlock hatch? Problem?

The electronic opener by the left knee of the driver works great to unlock my rear hatch, however, the key in the hatch lock doesn't work at all in my 968. Is it just not working or is it there for looks only? Or does it have something to do with the alarm system? I'm just guessing that the hatch lock is broken somehow? What's your guess as to what's going on? Something need to be adjusted or replaced? Thanks.

The key activates a microswitch that unlocks the hatch. That microswitch can go bad, I had to replace the unit on the S2 for the same reason. Before doing a replacement check the alignment of the microswitch.

First I would open the hatch and find the microswitch. Depress the switch with you hand to see if the electrical portion is still working the release motor. If so you probably just need to adjust the switch so the key actuates it. I bent the arm on mine and put a piece of thick tape on it. Tape does not sound like a permanent fix but it has worked for over a year with no problem

I have the same problem with my S2, but the problem wasn't with the microswitch (or the grounds). Has anyone ever replaced the electric mechanism with the mechanical mechanism from an older car? That would also give you the ability to open the hatch when the battery is disconnected.
