Default How does the oil pump get driven?

Is the oil pump driven by the oil pump sleeve that fits around the crankshaft? And does the pump sleeve get driven by the thrust washer, which is in turn driven by the crank sprocket, which is forced against the thrust washer by the large crank bolt via the power steering pulley and balance shaft gear?

I don't have PET in front of me but it is driven by the sleeve and the rest of the thrust sequence sequence sounds correct. There should be mylar "washers" on one end of the sleeve.

Thanks. (I think you mean an O-ring, not a mylar seal).

Black beveled o-ring. Yes. I'm starting to know this assembly all too well. Front seal & sleeve #4 on order. . . Hopefully this one won't leak.

Seal and Sleeve #4? Good grief man, something is wrong there. Last time I had a continual problem with a oil seal was ions ago on an '85 Pontiac and it turned out to be the bearings were worn and the crank was out of balance... good luck.

Yea, pissing oil out the crank front seal - again.

This is ridiculous. I've changed the seal twice and the sleeve. The balance shaft seals are fine (did those along with the crank seal the first time), as are the cam ones. This is the ONLY oil leak on the car and it's pissing me off fiercely. I may just replace the entire effin' oil pump assembly this time since I have a spare one sitting around. Dunno what else to do. All I can do is keep re-installing and hoping. There ain't much to it - pretty simple install really. I was uber-careful last time to make sure everything was seated nicely and even added a little Yamabond around the outside of the seal once it was in "just in case".

I'm betting it's leaking from the junction of the seal to the sleeve though, not the outside of the seal. Won't know until I pull the front apart - again, retension the belts - again and spend more hours of my life cleaning everything - again.

No "wobble" on the crank hopefully?

Nope. Car runs great - smooth and strong. Compression is good in all cylinders.

You are correct about the oil pump drive. Are you 100% sure it's coming from the seal? Could it be the oil pan gasket? The oil pump itself is sealed to the block using anerobic sealant (Loctite 573, I think) but if this failed I'm pretty sure it would only cause an internal leak (lower oil pressure).

Crap, I hope that's not what is causing my big 'ol leak. Maybe this weekend I'll pull the top covers and find out more.
