Default Catalytic converter wanted for '83 944

Happy holidays everyone.

I was wondering if anyone that received a cat bypass pipe this holiday or anybody with an extra one lying around wanted to get rid of an OEM cat?

Thank you
Tom

Well I have one, but it's up in Canada, sits in my machine shop, took it off my 83 944 when the exhaust pipe broke, no intention of putting it back on, what would the bus charge be to get it to PA? Seemed fine when I removed it. I have no idea how much to charge for it,
Mike

The 20 year old original design didn't flow any better than whats available in the aftermarket, so unless you are really set on it you don't have to replace with an original. You can replace it with any aftermarket CAT such as a CATCO, Dynomax etc. The front part of the original CAT has a small area for the CAT material the rest of the body is a resonator, which is why the 944 CAT is so long.

mbonner, thanks for the offer, but after purchasing and shipping a used one, a new one will be comparable in price from what I've seen for aftermarket ones line Mark has suggested.

Mark Lue, any specific suggestions for a cat that I can install without welding? I saw a few that had slip on fittings, but wanted to ask if you had any experience with a particular brand/model.

Thank you
Tom

Tom, I had my CAT welded by a muffler shop, so I have no insight on "slip on types". All I know is it is a Catco CAT for a GM V6 engine with 2 1/4 pipes, it performs just as good as the original except that it is a little noisier (NOT Ricey)because we didn't install a resonator. It has since helped pass 2 smog tests so you can say it is worth the $60 I paid for it back in 2001. I seem to recall that Skip at Parogon uses a Catco as well.

I know others who have installed the Dynomax and Magnaflow Hi-Flow CATs but during lapping days I don't see any difference in performance.
