Interesting timing belt tool...
I just saw this on eBay: timing belt tool. It doesn't look anything like Arnnworx tool or the kricket -- anybody know anything about it?

I asked about that in a thread a few months ago. Nobody responded. It seems a simple solution to the problem. I was thinking that it would not apply to 944s because the length between pulleys would be different. However, If it detects tension then perhaps the length would not be important.

Seen something like this for the 928 available from 928 International, but I never found out if it was usable for the 944. I would think it could be used on a 944, just that no noe has bothered to figure out what measurement you should target with it.

That is the Kempf tool. It is specific for 928's. It is a copy of the now unobtanium factory style tension tool.
It uses a preset value of spring tension to set the belt tension within the window (notch). Jay Kempf borrowed my P9201 tool for his product development. I've done my own testing using Jays tool comparing it to my 9201 and it is a great (i.e cheap) alternative to the 9201. A must have for any 928 owner.

Scott, what are the tension values for the 928 compared to the 944? Do you know? Any idea if this is compatable with a 944?
I am looking to buy a tensioning tool soon, will probably get the Arnnworx alternative. This one however looks interesting enough.

IIRC, the 944 tension is 2.7 +/- 0.3 on the 9201, the 928 is 4.5 to 5.0.
Go with the Arnworx tool... or try to score a deal on a 9201
