Default Cost of re-doing 944 engine

I´m looking at a 1987 944 S that has done 174000 miles (american specs) and is well mantained.
If I buy this car and I have to redo the engine some day (sooner or later) what is the cost of doing it?(labour + parts)
Porsche parts are very expensive here but labour is cheaper

I can sell you my '88 944S. The motor was rebuilt less than 15,000 miles ago. PM me if you are interested.

I hate to discourage you, but these cars brake a lot. The design is mostly great, but the age shows up eventually. An almost 19 years old car will keep breaking. I don't know about the currency exchange rate, but if you consider the parts to be expensive in Argentina, you might not be able to afford the repairs. As a rule of thumb, you should assume the cost of replacing parts will match the purchase price within 3 years or so.

Well first youll need some german engineers, a dedicated machine shop, a bolt store, testing team, .. ohhh you just want to rebuild it!

ask stig. :/ it will cost about 2500-3000 parts and labor here in the US to have a full rebuild done i think... 1500 or so if you do it yourself. Not sure wiht your parts prices

Thanks for your answers - and selling offer - I think I will pass on this particular car because the mileage is too high.

I suspect the cost of redoing the engine will be close to 5/6000 dollars here and I will still have an old car with many other potencial problems (clutch, gearbox, etc)

Here is what you need to consider when rebuilding the motor:

-Cylinders will need to be honed in order for piston rings to seat and seal properly.
-Block may need to be bored if cylinders are out of round. (YES ALUSIL CYLINDERS CAN HAVE THIS HAPPEN)
-Oil pump will need to be rebuild if that many miles. (simple)
-Crankshaft will need to be polished and checked. It may need regrinding
-Check all main bearing journals.
-Replace rod bearings and main bearings.
-Replace piston rings.
-Rebuild Cylinder Head and Machining

I'm in the process of rebuilding my own motor. Save yourself the price of labor and do it yourself

Just rebuild the head in a few years, do the clutch, swap the halfshafts left for right, and keep on going.

Don't sweat the mileage. I am the original owner of a one owner 1987 944s daily driver and it only has 235,000 miles now on the original unrebuilt engine. Still runs great. Just maintain 'em well!
