Default ok to just replace clutch disc?

i took off the clutch housing and pressure plate today (all in one piece because i didnt have an 8mm bolt to get the release lever pin out) and i have a rubber centered clutch! with 199k miles on the car. im starting to believe i am only the second owner. (first owner was a woman, car was originally bought in dayton, and thats where i picked it up in Jan 05) well, i didnt experience any slippage or anything, but the disc is looking pretty thing. i dont see any reason for a new pressure plate if everything was working fine before. and getting just a disc would save me about 3-400$

i hesitate putting it back in when in another 3k miles i have to face a clutch job. this would definatly be a big "while you were in there" job because i am only pulling my engine, for seals, cleaning, dressing up etc. etc. (and its winter and i got bored)

so what do you think? safe to get just the disc?

Honestly i think while you have the engine out, just drop the extra money and do everything all at the same time. I think it will save you a big "I should have..." or "I wish i..." in the event your clutch every does go.

While your at it, do the rear main seal.

You could do that...but WHY? You will be kicking your own a$$ when the pressure plate needs replacement.

i was thinking just get the kit and be done with it. i knew i was going to be spending more than i thought. maybe after the holidays it wont seem like such a burden, and ill have a tax return that can help out a bit

my dad is trying to talk me out of it, lol. he said back in the day, unless you smoked the pressure plate, (worked at a dealership) they would just replace the disc. he also brought up putting the rubber center back in.. that went out the window pretty quick

Back in the days and with any other car, the clutch won't take as much labor as a 944. It depends on what your time is worth and what the condition of the pressure plate/ TO bearing is in. You have to know what to look for. Just buy the whole kit on ebay for $393 and be done with it.

That kit is just a start of a proper job IMO.

Lots more little parts required to do it right.

i'de replace pilot bearing and release lever bearings, flywheel seal, and maybe throwout bearing guide tube also. all of that can be had for $75 or so. but i have no reason to replace master cylinder, or slave cylinder.

and im doing this just to appease my car. it had zero problems when i embarked on this project, lol.
