Default weird window switches

this is very strange. i used a multimeter to check this and it turns out that the pins on the twopassenger window switches do not match up. for example, pin 3 on the passenger side window switch on the drivers side of the car connect to like pin 5 on the passenger side passenger window switch. whats goin on here???

by the way the passenger side window doesnt work...the motor works its just the switches that are messed up

Rebuild the switches, easy fix. The contacts arent mating up correctly or they are dirty. Early or Late interior?

Search the archives, lots of writeups in the past.

Are you running continuity only? this would prove the contacts arent connecting properly in the (non- up/down) center position of the switch.

the bottom left pins of each switch should share a common node, correct?

It's easier to see the circuit when the switch cap is off (from the top with the button removed)
not sure which is which without pulling one apart.

Joe,

I think that there was a wire at the passenger door hinge that was shorting. If you tried the switches I know that one worked. IIRC. That was one of the last things that I had been working on. Passenger door switch worked to power the window and the driver side switch didn't. If you have someone hold the driver switch and wiggle the harness I think that you will see what I meen.

Hope that helps,

Michael

That's for sure. Even I've done it.

There is a good procedure you can follow posted at Clark's Garage. I used it, and it worked just great!
