Ok,
Since the cat is out of the bag time to post a picture of my newly painted 944 spec car.
I still have a few decals to apply, but it will be ready to race this Saturday.

Yep I did the paint job myself.
The car was originaly red and I felt it would come out better to keep the base color red. Plus red and white have been the colors for this car since 2000. I wanted to improve the look, but not make it unrecognizable.

Looks great, I like it. The paint scheme reminds me of one of the cars from the 86 N/A Rothmans Series in Canada.
Man, you made quick work of that project once you got going on it. Nice.

Did you just tape the edge for the white? Any special tape needed to hold a sharp, straight edge w/o bleeding?
Also, how well did the white cover the red, did it take several coats to keep it from looking pink?

What I did was take a few days off work and sand the car down as much as possible. In spots there were 5 layers of paint. Really nasty. I got as far as I could in 2 1/2 days.
I masked the windows and spoiler with paper and blue painters tape. Then I shot the entire thing with primer. I sanded the primer lighty and then masked where the white was going. Again with blue tape. Then painted it red. Waited a couple days then remasked the red and painted the white.
The good new is virtually no spill over and the seam is perfect. The bad news is I have slight lip along the seam. For a race car I would not worry, but if you wanted it perfect you would need to sand to knock down that seam at least.
I will post a pic sequence soon as I took pics at every stage of the process.

I think less than $250. Most expensive part was one gallon of Red paint. My father picked up some single stage NAPA paint. Nothing fancy need for a race car. Then 1 quart of white paint and 1 gallon of primer.
I already had the air compressor. I got a DA sander for $15 and HVLP paint gun from harbor freight for abotu $50.
This is NOT a show quality paint. Marginal even for a street car due for two reasons. 1) I got tired of sanding so there are some lumpy spots 2) It has more dust inclusion than I hoped for. Also there a a few runs from user error with paint application. Hey it was my first ever paint job so I am not to upset.

yea, when you do single stage paints those type of seams will show. (still looks damn nice on your car though) normally when doing two colors the level difference wont matter because you build up 4-5 coats of clear then sand 2 of them off and the seam is gone. but base/coat clear coat costs way more $$ than what i would want to get into for a car thats gettin tossed around a track.
looks nice, good job
