Why not just go to an autopart store? Or even order a rebuilt one online?

What is the part number. I have a rebuilt one off of an 87 924s that I will sell for $35 plus shipping.
PM me if interested, but not sure of compatibility on early 924.

Where are you located?

Auto parts stores usually have them.. Try O'Reilley, NAPA.

I've got a used one that's in good condition, if you're desperate.

'82 isn't compatible w/later 2.5l engines, IIRC. Different pulley.

Also try RockAuto.com.

Are you certain it's the alternator and not just the voltage regulator? What's it doing? Or not doing?

If you'll pay "top dollar" then why not get a new one with a warranty?

check the alternator bracket. the places where the mounting bolts go through elongated on mine causing the bracket to move, which wouldn't allow you to fully tighten the belt. it happened to my '80 924 back when i was in college. i remember my friend (porsche mechanic) and i tried to fix it, but it didn't work so we ordered a new bracket. solved the problem.

NAPA has them for $150.
Autozone has them for $120

I would only buy a used alternator as a last resort.
