Default New 944 Turbo owner

Hello everyone,
This is my first post and I know there will be more. A few months ago I purchased a 1988 944 Turbo for $2500.00. from P.O.. When calling owner he indicated that he thought the clutch was bad.The car didn't seem to make full boost and the starter was intermittent. Also had a slight scrape down the side. I bought the car and here's how everything went;
Body damage was very minor and will repaired over the winter along with some other minor issues as I've just put it away this weekend.
Boost issue was lose Intercooler fittings and clutch issue was actually a problem with shift linkage. I replaced starter and resolved the other problems within a few days and have driven the car up until first snowfall.
Car has 105,000 miles. I checked compression and leak-down and both are fine. Aside from slight damage mentioned the car is extremely clean and the interior is immaculate. I also have all maintinance records and all service is up to date.
As far as I can tell car is stock although I have not checked for a chip yet.This car feels quicker than 994Ts I've driven in the past. A few weeks ago it pulled a 5.5 0-60 on a G-Tech plus and as I recall this is a few tenths quicker than what I recall in the old road tests so maybe it has been "enhanced"
Thanks and talk to you soon!
Joel

I feel your excitement, I have had my 88 951 now for 2 weeks after wanting one since my buddy had one in high school in the early 90's. I got a similar deal to yours, from PO who was moving cross country and had to get rid of it quickly. After belts and water pump, and fixing several vacuum leaks, mine is pulling quite well. Congrats and have fun, it is addicting, especially when your pal's car is modded to hell and you want to be like him..........yes, a fellow rennlister.

G-tech's can be all over the board at times, but those are definately circa "stock" turbo S numbers.

I think my point is proven about the 944T for around $2500

Hardly. This is an EXTREMELY rare case with an ignorant PO. Certainly not the the norm or a good indicator of market price.

Congrats on the purchase.

In my case, I got a great deal, but there are still plenty of things to do, mostly routine maintenance items that are soon to be done. It is all about being in the right place at the right time. Knock on wood.

99.999% of 951s bought around this price range will be salvage titles, wrecked or have very major issues. In this case the buyer got an extremely good deal, and it is quite obvious that the PO had no idea what he had (as evidenced by the misdiagnosis).

Great buy, congrats on the new car and good luck!

You stole that car for $2500. G-Tech or not it sounds like you have a Turbo S which makes us even more jealous. Congratulations and welcome to Rennlist.
