I ran an 05 997 C4S a couple weeks ago. It had a full fabspeed exhaust including headers and GIAC ecu flash. My 951 puts down 250 or so to the wheels. He walked steadily on me in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, but couldnt pull any farther once i was in 5th, which was short lived. He left me in one corner at slow speeds, i had to let out of it or the car was going to spin.

That being said, a stock 996 C2 or C4 is a nice daily driver, they are just fast enough to be fun, and even more fun once we have installed a supercharger kit on them

The 996 is my favorite porsche out there, to me it seems very similar to driving the 951, where as a 911 or 930 is completly different to get use to. Plus that newer car feel is nice.

a 996 n/a is a slow car. A chipped 951 with basic mods is just as fast if not faster.

I beat my uncles 02 911 with my 944 turbo completely stock execept for lbe and 13psi. Now that I really modded it wouldnt be a fair race.

that being said the new 996 is leaps and bounds ahead of the 944 is so many ways. So if you question is merly about performance..its not a question at all a few mods she could be showing your
996 tail lights with ease...but, it wont be near as refined as the 996. period ever.

This is a 80's utrbo porsche as the above poster already stated. its much more raw and more of a handlful.... I still remember my fathers 77' slantnose turbo. good god that thing was a beast. Like taming a wild bull.

Buy a clean 944t for 8k put 4k in it.. with complete maintance rebuild and some mods..make 250ish rwhp and be done with it

a 997S is one seriously quick car.

one would need full bolt on's and prolly a larger turbo to pull out steadily on one of those

You said it, but it is important for people to note that you are comparing apples and oranges. I wasn't too fond of my 996 stock suspension so I installed PSS9s and GT3 adjustable sway bars. That said, I think that a comparison of a stock 996 to a stock 951 would find that the 996 could handle itself just fine in the twisties. The suspension is one of the best parts of the modern 911. Each iteration has gotten a little better (or so I understand not having driven too many of the earlier models).

The 996 is a very easy car to drive very fast. The 944 platform is very fun to drive at any speed, despite the fact that you need to manage your weight more actively than in a 996, regardless of whether the 996 has electronic goodies or not. In the 944 platform, feedback is pretty direct. In the 996 platform, you are separated from the feedback by a 10 foot stick. It is there, but it is just not as direct.

Right on TD. It's a difficult comparison for sure. In effort to attempt an answer to Club411's initial question, I'd say YES, done properly a modded 951 can apparently be comparable in speed to a stock 996, which includes being fast in the corners with the right suspension. Had I kept my 996, I would have done like you and many others and stiffened it and lowered it a bit. That would have made an already amazing car just that much sweeter for sure.

I just keep on reading all of these posts/ebay listings claiming that thier 951's beat new vipers/996 turbos/ zo6's. Guaging from this thread I think that a modded 951 should be as fast or a bit quicker than a 996.

Has anyone ever seen a 951 REALLY smoke a new Viper or a 996 TT??

Thanks for all the input!

A heavily modified 951 could give a TT a run for its money, but thats putting a heavily modified car against a stock car. For ****s and giggles on day, I ran stephen kaspars 800hp 996TT, and he literally had 10 car lengths on me before i ever got the gas to the floor. No 951 is keeping up with a heavily modified 996TT. We can flash a 996TT in 20 minutes and add 70hp. A stage 4 kit is all bolt on mods, and will run 605hp. Point is, you can mod a 951 to keep up with a stock TT, but you can mod the TT very easily to blow the hell out of any 951.

edit: On the other hand, we found out that his TT has way too much power for the track. He was taking it easy with his kids on the parade laps and ripped the flywheel bolts out of the crank at the last track event.

here here my brother

point is a 996tt is a much better car all around and will make more power more realibly period.

You can mod your 996tt and put out 600hp without breaking a sweat. that feat in a 951 is much much much harder to come by. In fact I dont know of 1 street driven 951 that is 600rwhp.

although ST does us proud. 533rwhp stock motor.

Doesn't it already? I'm not a fan of its looks but that is not the point.

I love 944's and 951's......great cars! The advantage that 951's have over NA 996's is that power mods are easier and cheaper.

To answer the question a 951 can be modded to be faster than a stock 996. I have seen some very fast ones at the track.

Good luck!!

Evo supercharger kits:

3.4l
Power: 420 HP @ 6800 RPM’s
Torque: 340 TQ from 5000 RPM’s to 6800 RPM’s
Boost Pressure: 0.40 bar (6psi)

3.6l
Power: 470 HP @ 6800 RPM’s
Torque: 360 TQ from 5000 RPM’s to 6800 RPM’s
Boost Pressure: 0.35 bar (5psi)

Half the 996s on this board are supercharged. That's not too shabby.

I have an 02 in the shop right now that i will be supercharging with EVO's kit this week. Takes about 2 days, and makes the car pretty fun to drive. We have done quite a few, and the owners seem to enjoy them.

So, for a $20k investment, which is faster and better at the track?
