Default Progress?

Well, I've been able to spend some more time in the shop. The car is slowly getting down to the shell. Got the headlights out Sunday and the wiring harness is ready to come out as soon as I get the driver's side fender off and the charcoal canister out.

Getting ever closer. I hope to be pressure washing very soon.

Anybody have a good method for getting this undercoating off? So far I'm just scraping and it works well, but it's just time consuming.

The hidden fender bolts. Well, two of the three anyway. I'd fortunately read about these before and did a little more research by searching (what a concept). Took me a while to figure out where they were. Folks suggested torching off the mastic, but I just cut around it with a box cutter and pulled it off.

I thought I'd include this photo for reference for those who might need help finding them someday.

There is a screw on the latch mechanism that holds the cable and there is a clamp that holds the sheeth. Pretty easy actually. I can try to get a picture if needed.

I used a wire wheel in the wheel wells; messy, but effective. Still needs degreaser, of course, but required little effort.

Thanks Vaughan. I was going to write to you to find out what you did. Using the scraper is tedious to be certain.

I was going to remove the fender to remove the charcoal canister, but now that I've removed the passenger fender I realize that the canister will have to come out first. Geez. This thing is like a Chinese puzzle sometimes.

George, I second the wire wheel. You have air out there so grab an air drill and go to it.

I've now seen a few of the early series 944s that have had some corrosion in that area. I wonder if the later cars have a much better chance with the fenderliners?

The wiring harness firewall grommet will be fun...

Look forward to more progress pics, thanks!

I started using a scraper to remove the undercoating and that was a real pain. I'll give the wire wheel a try.

As for rust, I did not find any in the wheel wells on my '88 924S. However, in removing the rubber floor liner in the drivers footwell there were a few spots.
