Do you have the mahle 75, or 42? here's the thread. supposedly there is a hard to find one with teh check valve, but the other does not. I'm not sure how critical it is though? I guess there would be loss of oil pressure until car runs for a couple seconds?

The filter I have is a Mann (German Porsche OEM like Mahle). I'll have to look into it.

It's extremely cost prohibitive to install an aftermarket suspension because of the torsion bar rear end, and it drives me crazy. Shops want $600 to re-index the factory setup
I ran into a guy at SP, his wife had been my instructor at the Rock, and he'd traded his Golf for a 944. When he was playing with his new track car, he took a hole saw and drilled into the panels in front of the rear wheels. He can now re-index his torsion bars w/o dropping the suspension.

I have never liked an interference engine where the timing belt turns the water pump.

I agree with that. God help the non-mechanic who has to pay 10+ hours of book time to fix it.

I actually think that the drivetrain and its layout is pure genius. Ok, maybe not the rubber clutch, but on the whole, the system works.

My peeve (and I haven't even done it yet) is the timing belt. A $30 part that needs constant replacement needs a $700 tool. I guess it's more a DIY'ers peeve than for the guys who use their plastic, but still...

Perhaps on the list of out right oversights:

no replacement / inspection maintenance period for the S2's cam chain tensioner and pads, and while we're at it, no part number for just the pads (specifically the bottom one).

I suspect that the 944S with the 2.5L 16 valve engine would have a similar complaint.

Oh, one more thing to add for 944S2 specific cars:

Changing the air filter is no easy task!

I have to say the spot-welded header panels on the early cars is another gem.

Ah yes. With 30+ spot welds, no less.

30?!?! You got off easy! The 931 panel I'm currently drilling out for my project car has 56 last I counted!
