CV/Diff Flange Questions (pics)

Well, i drained the transmission fluid (new fluid getting in), took off the passenger side axle(getting cleaned and repacked) and took off the flange for the CV/Diff today (leaking shaft seal)......
Noticed this.....there are some grooves that i can feel with my finger nail, but they don't catch.
Thing is, this is not even where the shaft seal sits, i am not worried about this, just makes me wonder how/why did those grooves get there, and yes the flange has been cleaned very well (thanks to petrol and a toliet scrubber LOL)

If you could re-focus that last pic a little more on the shaft and less on the beverage it would help.
The grooves you found may have been the result of the original machining process.
