Default Electric window problems...

When I bought my car, neither window worked. Now I need to pass inspection, and I need it fixed asap. The fuse is fine, I jumpered the relay and that did not work.. i checked and made sure all the switches were hooked up properly. Anything quick I can look for or do I need to take resistance readings and such? Thanks.

Seems a little odd that neither window trys to work.

I'd start by checking that I have voltage to the fuse in the fuse box. Sounds like you have a voltohm meter. Turn ignition key on. With meter set for DC voltage, one probe (-) grounded to the car, with the other(+, red) check each side of the metal clip holding the fuse (take fuse out). One side should show >12 V. Note which side has NO voltage.

Fuse out, leave key on. Meter set to volts. This is from my car, 87, 951
I think this tells me switch is working:
One probe to ground, other to NO volts side of fuse holder, I get 0.09 Volts then I push the window button and voltage goes to zero. Switch working.

I don't know how you bypassed the relay, but here's what I found on my relay pin out.
I measured the voltages at the five pin holders in the relay with the relay out and the key on:
Pin #30 85 85b 86 87
Volts >12 0 >12 >12 0
With key off, pin 86 shows 0 volts

My guess is your relay is bad,

Somebody let me know if I'm not on the right track here.

Let us know what you find.

Ok, here's another thought. I know you said the fuse was good, but try another fuse. Swap out the relay with another, I think there are several #53's in the box.
If that doesn't work, try wiggling (sp) the fuse, relay with the key on and power wind btn down. Sometimes the fuse contacts don't make good contact with the holder.

I had this problem with my fog lights, power to the fuse, power to the relay, but no light. Move the fuse and whoa, E = mc2, sweet.
