Molded Dash Cap
Has anyone ever installed one of these? How does the finished product look? Was it easy to install? I have seen them very reasonably priced and thought about dressing up my 951 slightly cracked dash. Any input would be great.

You are referring to the covercraft or coverlay dash product? I have heard they fit pretty well but tend to warp in the sun after a few years. If you install one and use a sun-visor you should be fine. As far as installation, I remember complaints that you need to fasten/glue the cover down in some places...Someone must have pics of an installation...

I have basically heard the same thing - if you take the time to install it properly and fit it correctly, it will look pretty good, especially for the money it costs.

I have used the coverlay dash cover before....and seen it used badly.
When I used mine, I just laid it over the dash(no glue). It did not warp and looked fine. I would get the occassional squeek from at the base of the windshield, where the cover would rub, but I fixed that too.
I also have seen them glued down and warped beyond recognition.
If you don't do it right it will warp big time, and look far worse than a few cracks in your dash.
Hopefully you can find someone here who has done a correct install.
They say to install them you need to scuff up your dash etc...

Dont glue the bitches. The heat and sunlight will warp them big time. the rest of the dash will rise, and the parts that are glued will stick and it will turn into a big mess. The best ones ive seen have lasted a long time and not warped, and they didnt use glue. The dash cover in my yeller car was glued on and its warped like spocks *** in a bad episode of star trek

True that! I have had mine replaced only after 4 months, the Alabama heat!!! I made the mistake of gluing the second one and it is starting to warp. It has a lifetime warranty so I will get a third and not glue it this time. If you take your time and do a little pre-fitting and trimming, it can look pretty good.

This is actually what I was referring to. I met someone at the Eurosport Fest, and he recomended this product. I checked every where to see if anyone had used this product and i found nothing.

Actually where I heard the gluing needed to be done was at the bottom of the gauge cluster oval. I've heard mixed reactions about that piece rattling. Fortunately the dash in my 88 was never a problem as I used a carpet cover to keep it from cracking during the day.

Dash Cap
Well, I think I posted this before somewhere, but in any event, I put one in my '83 (obviously old style dash) and was on there for 2+ years until I sold it. Yes, I sanded down the old dash (where the cracks made little ridges), did a little bit of trimming on the cap, and glued it down. When I glued it down, I put all sorts of clamps, books up against the windshield, and all kinds of micky mouse set ups to get it really pressed down so that it would dry with a good amount of pressure. I can honestly say for those 2+ yrs until I sold it, it never warped or cracked in the California sun (of course I always used those windshield sunvisor things). I cant say how it's holding up anymore, but it was a definite improvement over my cracked dash.
