Default What is the best wax?

Just picked up an '89 944S2 with only 30k miles on it. The car was sitting in a barn in upstate NY and could use some good detailing. The paint is original an in great shape for being 16 years old, but there are come chips and scratches. What is the best wax for this type of paint? I previously used the Mothers 3-step system (cleaner, sealer, carnuba) on my 86 turbo (had several years ago) but that paint was much newer back then. Should I be using a cleaner wax, pure carnuba, some of the new liquid waxes that have come out? Anyone give any thoughts on how to make this baby shine?

Check out Griotsgarage.com, I have been very happy with their stuff and methods. Their catalog will tell you all you need to know.

Go to the "Perf & Comp" category on this board. Look at the "Concours" section. Lots of information located there. Anthony O. is the board expert about detailing--check out his advice.

P21S is all I use on the Porsche, I love it - it destroys Zaino IMHO. (I havent tried Griot's yet and I cant imagine it being bad) On daily drivers and all wheels I use Rejex. Its awesome stuff.

I loved Zymol Carbon on my Stone Grey 944. The same wax looked awful on my Midnight Blue 968. I've since gone with the NXT and like the results so far.

You can get a lot of info in the Concours forum here in RennList as well. LOTS of opinions and thoughts out there.

I received a plastic can of the P21S wax from a PCA Christmas dinner one year and it looked great on the Stone Grey 944S along with the 1st two steps from Meguiars. My grandfather sticks behind the 3-stage meguiars waxes for his caddies.

I use meguiar's gold class liquid wax. It does a damn good job on mine. It's a daily driver so i don't need the uber expensive stuff. I hear there are better though.

Step 1: Mother's clay bar (available at any auto discount place)
Step 2: Meguiar's Paint Cleaner or Light Cut (available at topoftheline.com)
Step 3: Meguiar's Polish
Step 4: Meguiar's Carnuba Wax
Step5: Optimum Car Wax/sealer with UV protection (topoftheline or Optimum
web site) this REALLY makes a difference as final step and after every
subsequent wash)

I've used the meguiars stuff exclusively after trying zymol and p21s...I can get the same results, IMHO, for about 1/3 of the price. Generally I use the meguiars quikclay, Deep crystal step 1, Hand Glaze #7 then 2 coats of NXT. For shows I top it with Gold Class. This is on my guards red 968.

I use an acrylic sealant, Klasse All-in-One. Followed with Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze. I have 6 layers of SG on my BMW 530i. That's for protection.

This winter I'm using Optimum Car Wax, the newest wonder-wax, as a topper. I'ts a spray on wax that is very easy to use and leaves a very nice shine. OCW is a blend of selant and carnuba wax. It's supposed to last several months. Most people use it alone, but I wanted the protection of a sealant for the winter.
