Turbo Fender Decal Install
I got a real bad feeling..... URL=https://rennlist.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1759325&postcount=33]first off it's the wrong color,[/URL] kinda hard to tell when it's sandwiched to the backing paper and I did'nt verify the p/n . Luckly it works with the chromed dishes. Second, it stuck a hell of a lot better to the backing paper than the car, I hope the adhesive isn't so old that this will be one of the shortest lived "upgrades" the 951 will have ever seen.
Yep, combed the archives but not a whole lot of detailed info was available.
I simple green and clay bared the top of the fender to prep the surface. So......what's my "cure" time and what should I do to seal it to the fender?

Let it sit do dry. Most I've read about the installation from those who have done it, they used soapy water to position the decal and work out the bubbles. Let it sit overnight andsee how it turns out.

Hell, par for the course, I couldn't even get the link built right Yeah, in the morning I'll put some killer wax on it, unless someone suggests something better tonight, and if it comes off at least I won't bitch that it's the wrong color.
TIP, look across the surface and just like bubbles, gently drag water pockets to the edge.

Tomorrow might be too soon to put wax on there. Let it sit at least a day out in the sun to make sure it fully cures. You should probably wait at least a week or so before applying any products to the fender at all.

Did you strip the wax before you put the sticker on?? I wax my windows(no wipers on the 954) and I couldn't get a sticker to even think about sticking.

Shaun, Good to hear from you, you really are a troll , how are things these days? BTW, I finially got some rattle cans of color matched Guards Red. I'll get her as much sun time as our forcast will allow and Fri put some Mothers carnuba over it just before heading to Sharktoberfest.
nine-44, I didn't use a wax remover but I figured the concentrated Simple Green should have taken care of that, well sorta. I was really surprised how difficult it was separating the decal from the backing paper, even after the backing was soaked in window cleaner.

I have applied quite a few vinyl decals on my company vehicles. The sign shop suggested using the soap and water trick in order to position the decals and to allow time to squeegy the bubbles out...HOWEVER, they said to get the backing paper off as quick as possible, because once it gets wet, it's a bear to remove. If you let it sit on the vehicle while wet, this could be why it was so difficult to remove. I always have the backing paper off within a minute of application and never have difficulty removing it. Try that next time and hopefully it will be much easier.
The above suggestion about removing wax first is a good idea too, unless you're applying race car numbers or something else that you might want to remove in the near future.

Here's a quick pic, the silver is WAAAY to subtle. Considering the color it may have a much shorter lifespan than originally intended Thanks to the backing postioning only takes seconds, and backing was off in 3-4 minutes.

I like it too. I wouldn't change a thing. In bright red, with the chrome forged wheels and the decal, that car would have been front and center in the showroom back in '87. My stone grey '87 with minimal options hid as a wallflower in the back of the lot until March of 1988.

My purest Porsche paint scheme of red, black, and gold has been skewed. The silver would look hot on a stone grey car!
Maybe I'll just shut up and claybar my hood!

35th, Good point! That is one thing I really like about this stinkn' thing, with the color gradient front to rear, fender angle and the changing light (partly cloudy day in SD today), it's always changing. It fades front to back, same color.
Now just imagine catching a glimpse of it going down the road....
