Give me a 993 Turbo, and I'll take your friends GTO any day of the week with that car stock

If you say it is must be so. your 15 year old S2 will spank my GTO. But I know my 350hp GTO will spank my 15 year old 208hp S2.

Just out of curiosity, Tom, how much does your GTO weigh, and how much does the S2 weigh (around 3000 lbs, maybe?)? I don't doubt for a moment that the GTO will spank it, but when bench racing, one must look at power-to-weight...

How does the GTO compare to a Mach 1 mustang with headers, no cat, chip? Just curious because one beat me in the 86' 951.

No kidding.

You guys are completely ignoring driving skill. This whole thread is a waste of bandwidth.

I've seen spec miatas schooling gt3 cup cars at Thunderhill...

If you're thinking this is a typical US boat, it aint. This is a cool aussie car that actually handles.

Dear, Mr R.

Tom, considering my car makes about the same HP as your GTO (WHP) and makes more (WTQ) then your GTO and weighs in at 2875lbs. I think your GTO is $#(#(ing slow..

KTHXBYE

Those pesky Miatas are quite the annoyance at the track, super cars for the money though. I drove my friends at Gingerman raceway and despite not having any power what so ever it handled unbelievably well (with only a couple minor suspension mods and tires).

from what ive read on other sites it comes in at about 3800 lbs. i have not verified that. i have verified that up to about 100mph it will leave my S2 at least a few car lengths back. same for a stomp in third gear from about 40mph.

but what do i know, i merely have both of them.

a number of guys have put bigger sways and konis in and said the improvement in handling is amazing with little degredation of ride quality. sound familiar?

if they took the ponitac badges off the car you would not believe it is a gm. the quality of materials and fit and finis is truely world class. you cannot find more car for 30k. check one out next time you pass a pontiac dealer. you will be very pleasantly surprised.

my svo mustang was an 85, and when it was running good for a couple days, i was boosting at 22 psi.(before my wastegate rod bent) right after pulling out of my driveway, an 03 gto(no scoops right?) weaved through traffic to get next to me at the light. it was a guy in his 40s, and was revving at me. i thought maybe he was just the type that drives like a dick, but when i looked over, he was staring and smiling, and revved again. when the light turned, he took off first, because i looked around for cops first. we went about 3/4 mile and i pulled past him. when i slowed for my turn, he honked and waved. if i was in my cobra, i probably wouldve gotten beat, because its so easy to miss a shift.
the point of my long movie script is: can the 944's boost just be upped and handle it? just turn the boost up. the gearing in my svo was 3.73:1 and had a hurst shifter. probably weighed about 2,700 lbs. and had 90,000 miles. i think it can be done.

OK, so you modded the crap out of your car and pulled some of the interior to make it lighter. Any thought to what would happen if someone did the same to a GTO? You would loose. Its not hard to hit upper 500's in HP on these cars with more "WTQ" than you have ever wet dreamed about.

Take your pompous *** out of this thread.

The GTO was designed with some of the same basic end product concepts of Porsche automobiles. It is a touring car with some muscle. It is designed to keep the occupants comfortable. It is designed to perform in a way that sets it apart from the car next to it.

Just like our cars it can be modified to run the 1/4 miles faster, increase its handling capability and reduce its reliability (yeah, most mods don't do much for long term reliability).

The GTO will out drive my slightly modded (suspension) n/a in any way. The elegance isn't there, but the numbers back it up. The car isn't typical American drivel, if most of you guys would take off the blinders you would respect it for what it is. The new mustang is crappy, the new charger is crappy. Yes, they can be fast, but the creature comforts suck, the handling sucks. Yes, I've driven them both.

Now back to the thread topic. The '05 GTO's with the 400/400 LS2 is an amazing car. Better brakes, serious power in all gears. That extra HP and TQ make a serious appearance at the top end. Stock '04s are putting down 13.2-13.7 in the quarter, the 05's are .5 faster or so than that. The auto's are putting down the fast times as they tweaked the hell out of the shift points and speed. I suggest not beating the crap out of the cars and just debating it over beer.

Umm...I semms that I struck a nerve here with some of you. I like the idea of the beer instead of thrashing my car. Thanks for everyone's input.

does anyone ever race 944's vs. 944's? If you want to race someone find a car that is similar or its just a waste of time. My supra turbo would have whooped my 944 but in a corner no contest but a miata would whoop my 44 but then again get a elise and then see but this is just a waste of breath.

If there was a direct formula for making a good car - it'd be damn easy, wouldn't it?
