I'm still not getting it... would you leave the wire in? I mean, you're just talking about for testing purposes- this doesn't do anything to fix, right? I'm asking in reference to the orange control box for the airbags- I'm wanting to remove it- evidently, the car will not turn on unless two of the wires are them jumped... anyone get this? I think it had some sort of "safety" feature in that the fuel would shut off in the event of a crash- not really neccessary since the '86's didn't have airbags at all & therefore wouldn't have had the orange control box or fuel shut-off feature, etc... I'd just like to get to the bottom of that- I don't want to yank the control box & then not be able to start my car for 6 months while I try to find someone to fix it... sorry for the tangent- I just thought "jump " or "Jumper" would mean the same thing, but it doesn't sound like it....

crap, this fan issue just happened with my 924S... this morning i went out to the car to start her up and go to school, and i heard a fan on, i couldn't tell where it was coming from except that it was under the hood, then i went to go start her up and she didn't crank. now since it is most likely the fan relay/switch, if i pull it i'm guessing that when i am driving the fans will not turn on at all to cool the engine correct? so basically i have to get my hands on a fan switch ASAP

I had the same problem, and suspected the thermo fan switch as well.
Replaced it and still had the same problem.
Ended up being fixed when I replaced the fan relay... so I replaced that and now I have something different going on, possibly due to it being the wrong relay that Porsche sold me.
My fan used to stay on until the engine was cool, even after removing the key, locking the doors, walking away, etc. Left a lot of confused faces while I was walking away from a car that sounded like a jet. Now with the new relay it turns off as soon as I remove the key. Regularly I just sit there with the key in the ignition (set to accessory) until the fan shuts off.
I've been told I don't need to do this, but it gives me piece of mind... anyone else have this issue/non-issue?

Now I'm experiencing this same problem...for the second time. A few months ago my cooling fans were turning on and off with the ignition off, I replaced the relay and it fixed the problem. Yesterday I tried to start up my car and I discovered the battery was dead, after the battery was charged, the fans started up again. Since I just replaced the relay, would it be safe to assume that the thermofan switch needs to be replaced, or could it be something else?

I had this problem until I made my own circuit for the fans. Treat the fans as if they are an aftermarket setup with a good relay, an auto resettable circuit breaker and some beefy wire. I actually created two circuits, one for the thermalswitch and one for a separate manual switch. The relay sits nicely on the tab towards the back of the airbox and both circuits have 30 amp fuses. I have had no trouble since. I happy to take pictures and explain how. It is really easy.

Here is a thermoswitch

Although it says that it is for a 2.5L turbo, do you guys think that it will work for an 89' 2.7L non turbo?
